A programme of exquisite Christmas music, performed by Exultate Singers and accompanied by the harpist Kate Pearson. Opening with the processional medieval plainchant Of the Father’s love begotten, the CD includes music for Advent and Christmas by a wide range of composers from arrangements of traditional favourite carols such as Gabriel’s Message, Tomorrow shall be my dancing day, Stille Nacht, the Sans Day Carol and two Spanish carols as well as Christmas choral gems by Herbert Howells and John Joubert. Harold Darke’s In the bleak midwinter is beautifully accompanied by harp, and there are lyrical and dramatic 21st century works by James MacMillan, Francis Pott and David Ogden. A beautifully reflective, festive and evocative CD.
Recorded at St Augustine’s Chapel, St Monica’ Trust, Bristol in May 2015. Recorded, edited & mastered by Andrew Post; Producer: Daniel Moult; booklet notes: David Ogden
